We Are Not Criminals
We helped your brother manage his pain this morning.
He didn't tell you, because you make him feel like a criminal.
We helped your father half his morphine this week.
He didn't tell you, because you make him feel like a criminal.
We helped your cousin calm her spasms this month, she didn't tell you,
because you make her feel like a criminal.
We helped your aunties with their Endo, Chrones and Fibromyalgia all year,
they may never tell you, because you make them feel like criminals.

I grow cannabis amongst my tomatoes and beans.
I work hard, pay my bills and donate to charities.
I do what I do so the people you love and care for don't have to go to the places I once went and deal with the actual criminals,
the murderers and rapists that I once dealt with.
I help your friends and family in ways we only wish we could tell you. But won't.
Because even though we are decent human beings,
simply trying to get through life with a smile, just like you,
you make us feel like criminals.
I work hard, pay my bills and donate to charities.
I do what I do so the people you love and care for don't have to go to the places I once went and deal with the actual criminals,
the murderers and rapists that I once dealt with.
I help your friends and family in ways we only wish we could tell you. But won't.
Because even though we are decent human beings,
simply trying to get through life with a smile, just like you,
you make us feel like criminals.
We are doing this with or without you.
It's just better when you're by our side.
